Rally Squirrel Gets His Own Baseball Card

Topps Rally Squirrel Baseball Card

The “Rally Squirrel” made Cardinal’s history when it shot across home plate in the National League division series.  Topps released a limited variation baseball card for 2012.  The “Rally Squirrel” rookie card is included as part of the 2012 Topps Series 1 set.

The new Skip Schumaker SP (single print) 93 baseball card released, featuring the “Rally Squirrel” darting past Schumaker’s left heel and ankle.  This is the only time a player’s Topps card has not included the players face.

This card does not replace the official Schumaker baseball card, it is only a variant.  There is another version of Schumaker’s card in the set that does feature his face in standard baseball card tradition.

However, the first copy of the short printed variation (not an official RC) “Rally Squirrel” card recently sold on eBay for $611.99 after 26 bids and other “Rally Squirrel” cards are available now for $100 and up.  It’s Nuts!

We’re very excited to see what new hijinks “Rally Squirrel” has in store for that fans in 2012.

The grass may actually be equally green on the the side.  Now that the Rally squirrel and his family have been relocated, efforts are set in motion to make sure the new habitat feels like home.  Scotts Miracle-Gro Company is the official lawn care company of the St. Louis Cardinals and the well maintained quality grass of Busch Stadium may be what attracted the Rally Squirrel to initially take up residence.  Scotts will be making a $10,000 product donation including Morning Song Squirrel & Backyard wildlife food, Scotts Songbird Selections Wild Bird Food and a variety of Scotts branded lawn care products to the Wildlife Rescue Center, the new home of the Rally Squirrel.

“While we understand that the Rally Squirrel loves the field as much as the players and fans do, his new home will provide a much better habitat for him,” said Bill Findley, Head Groundskeeper of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Scotts will also donate Miracle-Gro gardening products which will be used in conjunction with the Wildlife Rescue Center’s youth gardening educational clinics.  If you would like to know more about the Rally Squirrel’s new home, visit the Wildlife Rescue Center

Later, Dotel and his teammates celebrated their National League Championship Series over the Milwaukee Brewers by toasting with Rally Squirrel and spraying him with champagne and beer.  Dotel said he would keep the squirrel through the 2011 World Series. “Somebody threw it to us, like making fun of us,” Dotel commented, “They didn’t know that it’s our good luck; they gave us good luck to our bullpen and that’s ahy the bullpen has been so great lately”.

Dotel keeps the squirrel in his locker during the game, but if you watch carefully you can spot Rally Squirrel in the pocket of Dotel’s sweatshirt watching from the dugout.
